UK blackout near miss

There has been much comment, concern and discussion in recent weeks about the UK's vulnerability to 'dunkelflaute' - when the wind isn't blowing and the sun's not shining.

Why doesn't this Government look seriously at tidal range as part of a long-term, cost-effective and popular solution?

The Chancellor says "We have promised a new approach to growth – one fit for a changed world."

Tidal range in general, and the North Wales Tidal Lagoon in particular, offers just what is needed. A significant infrastructure project that will employ over 20,000 people, sustained and reliable energy generation, ancillary industry growth and peace of mind and security for the communities and businesses in North Wales that are threatened by sea level rise.

We call on Edward Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, to look at long-term solutions, not short term fixes, and get behind tidal range for the sake of his Government and the country.
